In order to stand out in the fast-paced world of vaping technology, a manufacturer has to deliver reliable, quality, high-performance equipment that justifies its cost to the consumer. Most companies that stick around understand this, but some like to add a little bit of crazy to the mix. Mod manufacturer Sigelei has gotten its madness under control with the updated second version of their collapsible Legend mod. Let’s take a closer look at the Legend V2, shall we?
Pushing Design One Step Too Far … That’s Sigelei!
As stated above, Sigelei has developed a reputation as the slightly crazy member of the vaping equipment community. The enormous swooshy stripes it stamped into the sides of its fifty and hundred watt box mods turned out to be the just the beginning! When Sigelei released the first Legend mod, their madness of choice was a control scheme governed by an accelerometer. Users were expected to wave the mod madly, like a magic wand, to alter the voltage and wattage settings. This went over about as well as could be expected, and the Legend (and its users!) were quickly singled out for considerable scorn.
Correcting The Mistake Of The Original Legend
Well, Sigelei has learned their lesson. They’ve brought the Legend back in an updated version, and they’ve made it much easier (or at least much less embarassing) to use. The infamous accelerometer is gone, replaced by a simple gravity sensor. This means the Legend V2 still uses a one-button control scheme, but now the user only has to tilt the device instead of waggling it suggestively. Vapers who were fans of Sigelei’s terrific build quality but not fans of looking like idiots while using their mods are doubtless very happy.
Legend V2 Features
Besides its high-tech motion-sensing control screen, the Legend V2 also has a very fancy OLED display that offers up a host of useful information. Besides tracking voltage and wattage, it gives the user very accurate resistance readings (such that the Legend makes an excellent tester for confirming a given coil’s resistance) as well as a puff counter and a clock for tracking vaping time. It also has standard safety features including short circuit protection and reverse polarity protection.
As a collapsible mod, the Legend V2 is designed to work equally well with either an 18650 battery or an 18350. Its universal connector is threaded to accept all standard 510 and eGo tanks and atomizers, and the spring-loaded connection pin ensures a constant connection. The voltage range goes from three to six volts, and the wattage can be taken from three watts all the way up to an impressive (for this size) fifteen watts.
Design Qualities
Like all of Sigelei’s mods, the Legend V2 features truly impressive build quality. The unit is compact but very heavy; this is because it’s made entirely out of 304 stainless steel. The finish is brushed so that the mod doesn’t shine and attract fingerprints too badly. It’s important to note that unlike some less carefully-crafted mods, the Legend V2’s high quality materials extend to its connector; the threading on the top is also crafted from durable, long-lasting stainless steel.
Performance
While this definitely isn’t a super-high-performance mod like Sigelei’s hundred or fifty watt models, it shouldn’t be underestimated. The amount of vapor it can create when boosted to high wattage is truly impressive, and battery life appears to be excellent. Between its strong performance and its compact size, the Legend V2 serves as an excellent take-anywhere mod.
What Makes The Legend V2 Unique
Besides the motion-activated controls, there are a few other nice features that set the Legend V2 apart. It has the capability to charge a cell phone from its battery in an emergency, a handy extra that is all too rare on smaller mods. More interestingly, the Legend V2 has an adjustable safety cutoff. Where the vast majority of mods have an automatic shut down that triggers at ten seconds, the Legend V2 can be set by the user for a cutoff anywhere between five and twenty seconds.
Potential Issues
Even though Sigelei has banished the frenzied shaking associated with the original Legend, operating the V2 does take some getting used to. When it comes to actual use with a variety of tanks, clearomizers, and atomizers, it’s very important to note that the legend V2 is not designed to work with anything under 1.2 ohms. In fact, users have found that even using a coil that demands 1.3 ohms is problematic with this mod.
The Bottom Line On The Legend V2
The Legend V2 is a very nice mod for any vaper who knows that he or she isn’t going to switch over to sub-ohm attachments any time soon. Although a whole lot of us do our gear shopping online, this is one mod that really cries out for hands-on testing prior to making a buying decision. If you’re interested in the Legend V2, you should really get your hands on one in person if at all possible to see if the motion control system really works for you.
